Happy discovery anniversary! From CERN,1 year ago today CMS Experiment and ATLAS Experiment at CERN announced the Higgs particle! http://home.web.cern.ch/about/updates/2013/07/higgs-boson-one-year Image copyright CERN, 2012
But that wasn’t the only great discovery last independence day! It was the start of our independence age of discovery! In addition to the Higgs findings, Nature reported dark matter found in the filaments of our galaxy cluster. Galaxy filaments are like fingers in the outermost parts of the clusters, which are superstructures containing massive amounts of galaxies. The observed filament of dark matter is in-between two different clusters. At its distance from us, it looks like a huge string of dark matter. http://www.nature.com/news/dark-matter-s-tendrils-revealed-1.10951 Before this, we found that that dark matter creates a webbing across the entire universe. http://news.sciencemag.org/sciencenow/2010/07/a-new-way-to-map-the-universe.html In escence, what we discovered was a massive component of that web.
