Blunt Force Truth: Telling someone who experiences social anxiety to “just go talk to her (or him)” is about the same thing as telling someone experiencing depression to just “not be sad.” It’s like telling someone grieving the death of a loved one to “just get over it.” Or telling a narcissist to be selfless lol. How’s that been working?
Maybe you’re not comfortable with someone being uncomfortable.
And you know what?
That’s ok.
Sit with this feeling for a while. Ask it what gift it’s bringing you–the lesson that which by simply observing allows you to come to an understanding with yourself. It’s not about making this feeling go away. It’s not about finding a cure. It’s about learning from it to become more in touch with yourself.
It’s loving yourself through it.
Because the only way out is through.
