Blunt Force Truth: If you are truly “all lives matter,” then you don’t need to say that when the discussion is on Black Lives Matter. Because black lives are an integral part of all lives. It wouldn’t even be “all lives” without including black lives!
So nothing needs to be said.
You can support BLM while still being congruent with all lives.
On the other hand, of you choose to raise “all lives matter” as an argument to the topic of discussion of Black Lives Matter, that is an attempt to polarize the matter. In other words, you are adding division and separation by your words and actions, and that’s not what either movement is about, is it? Because anything less then complete unity isn’t really all lives matter, isn’t it?
So you can be all lives matter without the need to argue or introduce division. People aren’t being exclusive with BLM. Nobody is prioritizing themselves over anyone else. People are raising awareness of a systematic racial disparity in our system that is deadly.
And change is gonna happen whether you resist it or not. So if this is your argument, it’s time to question what the highest intent is, so you can move past your resistance.
